The Phoenix Saloon is a bar, chili parlor, and live music venue just off the Plaza in downtown New Braunfels, in a building it dates to 1871.
It reopened in March 2010 after a two-year renovation. The kitchen serves Texas Red chili and burgers from noon to 7pm, alongside a full bar with draft beer and cocktails.
Live music runs several nights a week, with a weekly open mic and a weekly karaoke night on its own calendar. The saloon tells its own history as the first bar in Texas to serve women, and credits its back-room cafe with the invention of chili powder in 1894.
