About Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar
Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar opened in 1977 inside the three-story brick boiler room of an 1878 cotton gin in the Gruene Historic District of New Braunfels. It sits on the banks of the Guadalupe River, and the boiler room, which survived the 1922 fire, has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1975 as part of the district.
The menu is built on fresh fish, chicken, thick steaks, and big burgers, with salads, appetizers, a kids menu, and a gluten-free menu, and the bar serves margaritas, ranch water, and Texas beer. Dining runs indoors and out, including the River Grove, a bricked patio added in 1998 in a grove of trees overlooking the river.
Free live music plays in the beer garden on Saturdays and Sundays, and four private rooms host parties from 25 to 140 guests.
