About the role

Responsible for providing training to all incoming and existing school bus drivers and bus monitors. Assist with accidents as needed. Assist the Safety Training Supervisor in the review of records for accidents, pre-trips, referral forms, training, video recordings, certifications, CPR/First aid, physicals and driving records. Assist with retraining of District personnel and administer bus safety programs district wide. As needed, perform the duties and responsibilities of Substitute bus drivers, monitors, and office staff, which includes covering bus routes, dispatching, and responding to telephone calls.

Responsibilities

  • Train and mentor district drivers, and retrain drivers receiving traffic law violations and those involved in accidents.
  • Assist with the design, maintenance, update, and implementation of training programs; teach defensive driving, bus safety, Crisis Prevention and Intervention, emergency procedures, and additional programs as needed.
  • Communicate with drivers, parents, and campus staff to build collaboration for addressing and managing student discipline and routing issues; maintain video surveillance of route operations to address employee quality of service and student management and discipline.
  • Participate in professional development that increases effectiveness and improves District performance.
  • Participate in team building activities and the decision-making process as appropriate.
  • Communicate and collaborate with campus/department staff to enhance service delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Serve as a substitute or extra-curricular trip driver of bus support when needed and meet all bus drivers or support performance responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibilities, but will provide guidance and direction to assigned staff.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Valid Texas Commercial Driver License with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.

Valid Texas School Bus Driver Certification.

High school diploma or equivalent with additional appropriate education and or training.

Must pass a school bus driver physical examination for physical and emotional stability.

Maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).

Texas Association for Pupil Transportation Trainer certification. (Preferred)

Experience

Two years applicable school transportation experience

Skills

Effective verbal and written communication

Ability to teach groups of students (Adults & Children)

Ability to problem solve

Willing to work flexible hours

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English

Ability to manage students in a safe and appropriate transportation environment

Knowledge of policies, laws, and industry best practices related to the Transportation field

High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Office Suites

Experience in documentation and record keeping procedures

Strong organizational skills

Ability to operate all types of buses and other vehicles in the District fleet in a safe and effective manner

Knowledge of the roads, subdivisions, campuses, attendance zones and boundaries, and individual school programs

Ability to make critical decisions in high pressure situations; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
